About Us

Northland Underground Drilling Limited commenced operating in 1999.

The company enjoyed the unique position of being the 1st locally owned and operated directional drilling company in the Whangarei District and began with one Vermeer horizontal directional drill.

The company has grown significantly and now operates two Vermeer directional drills, two diggers, a bobcat excavator, tip truck, truck mounted hydro vac equipment, a tracked rocksaw/mole plow, Kaeser fibre blower and miscellaneous other equipment required to complete all types of directional drilling and trenching work.

Today, the company is run by the general manager along with a field manager who organise the day-to-day operations of the company. Nine other staff are employed by NUD.

The operational area of the company covers the whole of Northland along with Rodney District; however, we are always open to working across other regions.

Northland Underground Drilling Limited is an active supporter of local organisations, including the Hikurangi Golf Club, The Kids Foundation Northland, Heart Foundation.

Mission Statement​

We also employ experienced and well-trained staff who are encouraged to continually improve their skill set through ongoing training opportunities.​

Our Vision​

General Manager – Graeme O’Donnell has 21 years’ experience in the drilling industry along with an engineering background. Major work has been for telecom and chorus as well as extensive work in major sewer and water schemes in Northland.​

Our Staff​

Field Manager – Barrie Pattison 40 over years’ experience in telecommunications with extensive experience in rigging, faults, joints and locates.

Barrie is field manager for Northland Underground Drilling with 6 years’ experience in this role.

We employ five other staff members who have experience between them as Digger operators, Rock saw/mole plow operators, buried services locators, Hydrovac Operators, Fibre blowing operators, Bobcat operators, Truck/trailer and tip truck operators.

Our staff are continually training both within our organisation and through external providers to ensure we meet all client expectations as well as complying with industry standards and health and safety requirements.

We have a well-equipped workshop which provides necessary expertise and support to carry out emergency repairs to equipment which minimises on site down time.​
